2010 Kicks Off

I finally shot my first match this year.

HERE is the footage from that.

Overall, I am very happy with my first match. I am seeing something different than last year. It is kind of hard to put my finger on… some sort of aggression level or something. I am not really sure… but I felt very good at this match despite the number of difficult shots. I shot like a complete lunatic, taking all the risks I could think to take. I fired at 20 yard targets while moving… I shot at poppers while falling out of the shooting area… etc. Despite that, I didn’t really have any meltdowns.

I am headed out to Area 5 pretty soon, and that will be the first major match of the year. Coming into it, I feel pretty confident, but not really perfectly polished like I want to be. I do feel a need to work on strong hand only/ weak hand only and also reload speed.

To work on my single handed shooting, I have decided to work on a drill called triple six (it is in the drill section), but I want to do triple six with a twist. For those that don’t know, triple six is an 18 shot, 3 string drill. From the holster, 6 shots on one target at 7 yards. Then 6 shots on one target at 15 yards, then 6 shots at 25 yards. All 3 string times are added together, along with .1 second for every point dropped. The total time is your score.

For reference sake, a really good score for me freestyle is under 7 seconds. After working this drill just a little bit strong hand and weak hand, I came up with some times I consider “doable”

Strong Hand Only:

7 Yard 2.2

15Yard 3.2

25 Yard 4.5

Total: 9.9 + a few points down = 11

Weak Hand Only:

7 Yard 3.5

15Yard 4.5

25 Yard 5.75

Total: 13.75 + a few points down = 14.75

So… something for me to shoot for I suppose. I find left handed shooting VERY difficult at 25 yards… especially when I am trying to be fast. After some work on this, I hope to be better.
